OUR STAFF

One of the things we're most proud of here at Rappahannock Church of Christ is a dedicated, fun-loving staff who love Jesus. They're kind of misfits, too, in that all of them, except one, started their careers far from ministry. Only our youth minister decided in high school that he wanted to do this for life. The rest of them worked in the corporate and blue-collar world on their way to this destination.

Walker Gaulding, Senior Minister Email Walker

Walker Gaulding came to us in 1987 upon graduation from Cincinnati Bible  College &  Seminary (now Cincinnati Christian University). It’s the only full-time  preaching job  he’s ever had, so he has a really weak resume. He preaches,  teaches, and plays guitar  in one of  the praise bands. Walker was born and raised  in Cold Harbor,  Virginia, in  the heart of the  Gaines Mill, and Seven-Days  battlefields. In the spring, he can often  be found at high school softball games,  cheering for teams his  daughters used to  play for. He married the gorgeous and  talented Mary Bob Snavely and together they  have three reasonably well-  behaved adult daughters:  Kylie, Spencer & Olivia.  Walker is a fan of old Jeeps and  spends some of his time  working on a 1965 CJ-5  made during the Kaiser years.  He’s a relic-hunting buff, rides  a big Motorcycle (113  cu in. w/100 HSP at the rear  wheel he modestly points out),  and has spent the last 2  ½ decades just trying  not to get fired (Did we mention he loves his job??)

Keith Peyton, Associate Minister of Operations Email Keith

Keith and his wife, Janie, live on part of the family farm that goes back four  generations. The entire family; including their two grown children, are VT alumni  and  love watching the Hokies play football. Keith received his Bachelor’s degree  in  Agricultural Economics in 1985 and has held several sales and marketing  related jobs  over the years.

Most recently he worked for 12 years as the seventh  grade science  teacher in the exact same classroom that he had sat in as a seventh  grade student. In  July of 2015 he accepted the call to become the Associate  Minister of Operations for  RCofC. His ministry areas include finance, facilities,  teaching, and database  management.

In  June of 2005, he accepted the call as Associate Minister here at RCofC.  Jim’s ministry  includes Pastoral Counseling, Teaching, Preaching, Worship Leading, Technical  leadership and directing the Orchestra.

Kent Childers, Youth Minister Email Kent

Kent was born and raised in Corbin, Kentucky. He met his wife, Lori, while he was  attending Kentucky Christian College (now KCU). He received a Bachelors  degree from Kentucky Christian and later an MDiv. degree from Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, TN

After completing his studies, Kent moved to Mechanicsville, VA,  where he served  as  youth minister at Mechanicsville Church of Christ for 13 years. He began serving at RCofC in 2008.

Kent enjoys d-groups, teaching, mission trips, service projects, object lessons that may or may not be combustible, playing the drums. His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 2:5.

Karen Davis, Children's Director Email Karen

Our Children’s Minister is an unrealistically bubbly, happy, lover of bright colors,  butterflies, unicorns, kids and Jesus. So she’s perfect for this job. Incredibly creative,  Karen is a master baker, though she’s never baked anything for the rest of the staff.

In the summer of 2012 we were searching for our next staff member and it occurred  to us that we already had her! One of our hardest-working and most consistent  volunteers in the children’s department, Karen had been a full-time homemaker for  14 years when the light bulb went on for us. We begged her to come to work for us,  and she quickly said yes. She is married to her husband Chris, and they are raising four  active, hungry boys: Jay, Ryan, Caleb and Dylan. In her limited spare time, she can be  found cheering for her sons on baseball and football fields, and in wrestling  gymnasiums.

Penny Barton, Administrative Assistant Email Penny

Penny and her husband, Billy, came to RCofC in August 2004 when they were  looking  for a new church for their family. They feel they have found a church  home where  they can truly worship and serve.

In the spring of 2005, she began  serving as the first  (and only) administrative assistant  for RCofC.  She spends her  days trying to keep up  with her Boss (the senior minister)  and the church’s four  other full-time staff  members. And her evenings & weekends  with her husband  and four children: Katie,  Hannah, Nathaniel, Brittany, son-in-law  Adam and  beautiful granddaughter, Ava.    Penny loves gadgets/technology and paper  planner/crafting, and uses both of those  things to do a job that she TOTALLY  LOVES!
