Regular Programs
Junior High Sunday School Class: This class is offered every Sunday from 10:00-10:45. Come and learn about a variety of subjects ranging from Heroes of the Bible (you know those dead guys) to studies into relevant issues like friendships for a teenager in Jr. High.
Life-Together Groups: Our small groups are a vital portion of our Jr. High Ministry. The goal isn’t to build a group, but a community of people who can share life with each other and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus in the process. Our small groups will usually meet during the fall and spring quarters when Wednesday night classes are offered. Groups meet at 6:45 p.m. in a house hosted by families close in proximity to the church. This is for the teenage Christian excited about deepening their relationship with Christ!
Monthly Events: Every month our Jr. High come together to hang out. This is another great thing to come to if you’re new. It’s comfortable, fun, and a great chance to meet other teens. You might expect to go play laser tag, have a game night, go to a concert, get together to play video games, or even just watch a movie at someone’s house.
Unique Programs
Launch: This 2 day/one night convention is usually offered a Friday and Saturday at the end of February each year. The convention is put on by Student Ministries of Virginia (SMOV) annually. Historically, Launch has brought a little fewer than 1,000 students from across the state together for an awesome time to encounter Christ. At the convention you can expect to find loud worship, down to earth teaching, and a high level of entertainment (bands, comedians, drama groups, etc…). Launch has brought famous speakers such as Aaron Chambers, frontline bands like KJ-52 and One Worth Finishing, and talent like Lost and Found in the past. You can check out www.smov.net for more information on the next convention!
Jr. High Challenge: Jr. High Challenge is one of the only week long events for the Jr. High age group. This event is put on every summer during 2 separate weeks on the college campus of Kentucky Christian University. During this week you might have your first personal quiet time with Jesus, worship with deep passion, open the doors to your heart by God through awesome classes and sessions, or maybe even be surprised to have the time of your life without things like drugs or alcohol. Check out www.kcuspecialevents.com for more information!
Service Trips: When we encounter Christ, he brings us into a life where He calls the shots. Not as some power hungry dictator, but as a good and loving Father who wants the best for His children. That’s what these trips are about…hearing God. This is a week to get up and go shine the love we have. We’ve painted houses, changed air filters, and fixed playground equipment, to name a few. We take these trips because learning to be the hands and feet of Jesus is an important part of growing as a Christian.
Jr. High Retreat: Each year we find a place to get away to for a weekend. The neat thing about this trip is that the devotions, games, cooking, cleaning (nearly everything) is all done by our Junior High students. The only thing crazier than the brain of a youth minister is the brain of a Junior Higher! Our kids have come up with stuff like Jello Twister or bobbing for hanging donuts on a string. Not only will you have a blast, but students will learn about Jesus in a way that makes sense to them because the devotions come from their peers! This isn’t just for kids who go to church all the time either. Anyone who comes will leave wanting more!
