Regular Programs
Sunday School Classes: These classes are offered every Sunday from 10:00-10:45. Our Sunday School classes are broken up as follows:
- Beginner Class: 4-5 yr olds that are Pre-K
- Primary Class: Kindergarten-1st grades
- Middler Class: 2nd-3rd grades
- Pre-Teen Class: 4th-5th grades
Each of these classes is located in our Education Wing of the church and is marked with a sign outside the classroom. In each of the classes you will find age appropriate activities and stories. This is a great first place to meet other children and to build a solid foundation of Biblical stories that will mold each child for a lifetime.
Family Sunday: The largest portion of a child’s learning comes from their parents. That’s why the first Sunday of each month we encourage families to worship together during the morning worship service. There is a Kid’s Sermon in the worship service where all children 5th grade and under can come up and participate. In the past there have been “magic remotes,” songs with motions for the entire congregation, dog kennels, and an assortment of other objects and activities to help teach a truth from the Bible. The Kid’s Sermon is age-appropriate for children, but often times the sermon or worship songs are a little over their head. However, children will have the opportunity to see their parents/guardians pave a path for them to follow throughout their life. They might not understand the message on training a child, but they will remember their dad flipping through the Bible following along. They will probably recall the way a mom closed her eyes to worship her King or the way an older teen brother wept in thankfulness during communion. These things make Family Sunday an important part of our programming here at Rappahannock!
Kid’s Church: During both the 8:30 and 11:00 service we offer Kid’s Church. Kid’s four years old to 5th grade get together to worship our awesome God. Initially everyone meets together for a time of lesson introduction followed by exciting worship with heart pumping motions. The younger children then split from the older kids for their respective story times. Methods may change, but the message of Christ will not. In Kid’s Church we fully believe that magic tricks, fun games, videos, skits, object lessons, etc…share the truth of Jesus’ love. We worship with shy children, outgoing children, and anything in between. Any kid that comes on Sunday morning will leave with fun stories to share for the rest of the day!
FaithWeaver Friends: Wednesday nights are often hectic for the average family. However, from 7-8 God speaks to our children in 1st-5th grade through crafts, games, fun story times, snacks, and music. Before going to class, all children and adults meet together in the main sanctuary. These first 15 minutes of the evening are dedicated to allowing the family to step out of a busy week, take a breath, and worship our God as a family. Kids will enjoy outrageous games, practical lessons, and good friends every Wednesday night during the fall and spring.
Unique Programs
Trunk r’ Treat Costume Party: Heard nutty stories about unsafe candy or neighborhoods? Our Trunk r’ Treat Costume Party takes out all the questions about your child’s safety. Dress up in your best costume and join us for action packed games, prizes, a costume contest, and safe trunk r’ treating. If you’re imagining a bunch of cars parked, trunks open, and a bowl of candy beside the spare tire in the trunk you’ve got the wrong idea! Once again our awesome volunteers make something good into something spectacular. Volunteers go all out in decorating their vehicles. One year Dorothy and her friends joined us on their way to Oz, the Skywalker’s handed out candy instead of light sabers, and a talking deer head directed kids to the back of a SUV. We love this event and are sure you and your family will too! Come and join us here and we promise you’ll get a taste of the church’s fun and loving personality!
VBS: VBS describes our entire children’s program in one week: Fun, Exciting, and Wild about God! Unfortunately a lot of people think you can’t have fun as a Christian! This year we’ll blow that myth out of the water as we’re joined by some good friends and party hard! Our VBS boasts an excitement-raising opening ceremony, realistic skits, outrageous crafts, tasty snacks, awesome opportunities to help others around the world, and a memorable closing ceremony!
Easter “Egg”stravaganza: We know what Easter is about…Jesus proving once and for all who He is and the depth of His love for us! But who doesn’t have fond memories of searching the house over for eggs or possibly even discovering the “Golden Egg” before everyone else? Join us for a hunt, crafts, an Easter book or skit, and a great time for children and adults alike! This is a great place to introduce you to other families and just plain have fun!
Ground Zero: This 2 day/one night convention is usually offered a Friday and Saturday of April each year. The convention is put on by Student Ministries of Virginia (SMOV) annually. Ground Zero is the newest of the student conventions and currently, about 600-700 students in 4th and 5th grade travel to it. Historically, Ground Zero has brought in Christian Magicians, put on a Slime Time Live event with the theme “Ooze God’s Love”, worshiped with Rob Biagi (V.I.P. of G.O.D.), and heard challenging messages from speakers like Bart Stone. You can check out www.smov.net for more information on the next convention!
